So you may think that you’re not supposed to reward yourself when you’re dieting. Many weight loss experts may say it but what they don’t always tell you is how you should reward your weight loss efforts when dieting.

The truth is that finding healthy ways to reward weight loss efforts when dieting is an important  first step to reaching your weight loss goals.

There certainly isn’t any reason you cannot reward yourself when you reach a new weight loss milestone or have break through like fitting into a smaller pants size.

You may think you want to reward yourself every time you lose a certain number of pounds. But it’s actually better to avoid using your weight loss as an indicator of success and focus on other factors.

Pick milestones that take are not about your weight loss efforts. Your weight will fluctuate a lot and isn’t really the best indicator of how your overall health is improving.

Instead, think of milestones like losing inches on your waist, going a certain amount of days without skipping your workouts, being able to walk longer without being out of breath, or making it through a tough workout.

When it comes to rewards, the best are ones that further your fitness goals. Here are some great ideas for rewards to give yourself.

Of course progress takes time, so pick a way to reward your weight loss efforts when dieting that you can really look forward to. It shouldn’t be a cupcake, but here are some great rewards that will keep you motivated.

1. Buy a new fitness gadget that you’ve been interested in.

Once you’ve been making it to your workouts regularly, how about investing in a heart rate monitor or fitness tracker?

They can be great motivators and make for an awesome reward.

2. Sign up for a fun new exercise class.

Maybe you’ve been wanting to do Zumba or water aerobics but couldn’t justify spending the money if you weren’t sure you were going to make the most use of it.

Well, that makes it a great prize for making some progress because once you see that inch come off of your waist you’re going to want to keep pushing through.

3. Get a full body massage.

When you’re new to exercise your body is going to get sore. It’s to be expected. Reward your hard work with a deep tissue or relaxation massage.

Massage is actually wonderful for both the mind and body to reduce stress, which many time can also help with getting better sleep and reduce stress eating.

4. Buy yourself something nice that you were unable to wear in the past.

Whether its a 2 piece bathing suit or smaller pair of jeans, if you reward your weight loss efforts with some new clothing in a smaller size, you will be motivated to keep up the weigh loss momentum.
